Why we are suddenly podcasting

Okay… So now we really are doing a podcast. Why actually?
We’ve asked ourselves this question a few times over the last few weeks and months – and yet we’re sitting here now, microphone on, coffee in hand, just talking away.

From the idea to the microphone - or: Why not earlier?

To be honest, the idea of starting a podcast at Ostendis is not entirely new. We’ve often said to ourselves: “Actually, we should record this…”. Because a lot happens here – not just in the software, but in the team, in the culture, in everyday life. And there is a lot of talking, laughing and discussion – sometimes serious, mostly personal and almost always productive in the end.

So why only now? Maybe because it just feels right now. Not a big project, not a PR plan, but an honest attempt to make our way of working audible. Ostendis will also be 10 years old this year, so it couldn’t be more fitting.

Why a podcast - and why us?

Sure, we are a software company. But anyone who only thinks of “software” in terms of functions, buttons and interfaces doesn’t really know Ostendis. Because for us, people are always at the center – in the product, in the process and, of course, in the team.

With Café usem Reduit, we provide insights into how we work, what drives us and how our attitude shapes our work – without a script or gloss. We could certainly have made an elaborately produced format podcast, gone into more technical details or HR. But we didn’t. Because that wouldn’t have been real – and we like it real and uncomplicated.

Who is actually talking

In the first episode and in most of the following episodes, you’ll hear Livia and Bastian – aka Team Marketing, who not only work at Ostendis, but also think along with us. We talk about what we love about our work, what’s sometimes annoying, what’s coming up, what’s already been and why the Reduit is the perfect podcast location.

Will Philippe make an appearance? For sure! Guests, customers, friends, partners? Maybe. Other colleagues from the Ostendis team, too, if we can get them in front of the camera. Let’s see where the journey takes us.

What you can expect in the podcast

Is this an HR podcast now? No. But of course we will also talk about recruiting, collaboration and our experiences with customers – just the way we experience it.
Our topics:

  • Culture at Ostendis: How we work – and why

  • Collaboration: Remote, on-site, with customers – and what we learn from it

  • Personal insights: What moves us, what we argue about, what we laugh about

  • Maybe an episode about coffee? (Wouldn’t be the first coffee discussion here).

And yes – maybe guests sometimes, maybe spontaneous episodes. We don’t have a rigid concept – and that’s exactly what we want.

Café usem Reduit, is that advertising now?

Yes and no. Of course we are Ostendis. Of course we talk about our product from time to time because it’s part of us. But this podcast is not intended as an advertising channel. It’s about how our attitude influences our actions – and what that does to the product. If this makes anyone want to find out more about Ostendis, we’d be delighted. But that’s not the aim.

Why now?

Because we have realized in the last few months: There are so many topics that concern us – from culture and processes to the human element and technology. And because we believe that many people out there have similar questions and issues.

We are convinced that now is exactly the right time to get started. Without too much of a plan, but with plenty of desire for honest conversations.
